The Physics & Mathematics in Biomedicine Consortium (P&M BioC)

About P&M BioC

We are a group of freely associated researchers with common interests in the resolution of biomedical problems through physics and mathematics.

Mission and Objectives

Our mission concerns the improvement of diagnoses and therapies through the innovative application of:

  • Medical imaging and data processing.

  • Mathematical modeling of both pathological and healthy tissue.

  • Experimental in vivo and in vitro research.

  • Medical data analysis and visualization.

  • Bioengineering applications.

To fullfil this mission the following objectives are addressed:

  • Integration of problem solving research teams (PSRTs).

  • Although P&M BioC is an organization of freely associated researchers, it has the commitment to promote inter-institutional research activities addressing talent development, exchange of researchers, and fundraising.

  • Development of translational research between end users and basic researchers.

  • Creating awareness within the biomedical research community about the benefits of the proposed approaches.

Organization

  • Research lines are determined by the common interest of each PSRT’s members and are related to the mission of P&M BioC.

  • Each PSRT should be assembled by a proposal of a P&M BioC member, who should act as a team leader to solve a particular aspect of the correspondent research line, such as a paper publication or any other activity related to the P&M BioC objectives.

  • PSRTs, if possible, should include non P&M BioC members, with the purpose of encouraging selected scientists to enroll P&M BioC.

  • The life of any PSRT will depend upon its specific task and performance. Once a PSRT is dismantled it can be reassembled with new members, team leaders, research line, and task.

  • Members of PSRTs should contribute in an egalitarian manner to the tasks at hand and are responsible of their achievements.

  • Members of any PSRT should acknowledge P&M BioC on any written or oral communication of research results.
